One
fact of late-April baseball is that a tremendous night can revamp a
season.
Jamie Hoffmann went 5-for-5 Tuesday at AT&T field, scoring twice
as the Chattanooga Lookouts whipped Huntsville 7-2. The right fielder entered
the game hitting a respectable .254 and left hitting a robust .313.
"You
can't really look at numbers right now," said Hoffmann, who has scored 18 runs
in 19 games. "It's just a matter of getting good at-bats. You want to make sure
you're comfortable out there."
Chattanooga has its first two-game winning streak of the season, following
an eight-game skid. The authentic
Pablo Sandoval jersey Black Lookouts scored six times in the second inning
of Monday's 6-3 win over the Stars but scored in four consecutive innings
Tuesday.
Gaby Martinez hit a two-run home run to right-center in the third
inning to put Chattanooga ahead to stay at 4-2.
"I feel like we're just
molding together a little bit," Hoffmann said. "Every team grows. When a team
goes through a lot of losing like we have, you really find out who people are
and stuff like that.
"Everybody kept plugging and pushing for each other, authentic
Tim Lincecum jersey Grey and that makes it a lot easier to come out of
something like that rather than tearing people down."
Tuesday's crowd of
4,763 was the third-largest this season at AT&T and the largest for a
non-Saturday night.
The Lookouts (5-14) extended their advantage to 5-2 in
the fourth inning on a Victor Mercedes sacrifice to right. They made it 7-2 in
the fifth when Juan Gonzalez drew a bases-loaded walk off Stars reliever Josh
Wahpepah and James Tomlin followed with an infield hit.
Lookouts pitchers
Francisco Felix, Jesus Rodriguez and Brent Leach combined to allow two runs on
10 hits before authentic
Tim Lincecum jersey Orange Victor Garate worked the final out. Felix was
making a spot start for the injured Travis Chick, who could be back for the next
series.
"I wish we would have gotten a little longer out of Felix, but he
kept us in the ballgame," Lookouts pitching coach Glenn Dishman said. "He gave
up the two runs but he battled back, and our guys fed off of that. I think they
realized we weren't going to give up as a pitching staff."
Huntsville (10-9)
jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on J.R. Hopf's RBI double to
right-center and Johnny Raburn's RBI single to right-center. The Lookouts
answered right back in the second when Felix launched a double to right-center
that scored Lucas May and Gonzalez.
James Adkins (0-2, 9.45 ERA) is scheduled
to start this morning's 11:15 series finale for the Lookouts, with Mark Holliman
(0-0, 7.62) scheduled for the Stars.

St. Mary's women's baseball player is making history | La Prensa;
San Antonio, Tex. | Find Articles at BNET
Baseball has been known as a "man's
game" because it takes a combination of speed and power to be successful in the
sport.
Every aspiring men's baseball player wants to be the next Babe Ruth or
Alex Rodriguez, but why can't women accomplish the same feats that the men want
to accomplish.
St. Mary's women's baseball player Arlynda Flores, from
Uvalde, TX, is setting the standard for women to follow. Over the weekend, she
knocked two homeruns out of the ball park to cement her place as the nation's
homerun leader in NCAA Division II.
With 23 homeruns under her belt, Pablo
Sandoval official jersey she is one ball out of the ballpark away from
tieing the St. Mary's record for most homeruns set by Elizabeth Beyer in 2005
with 24 homeruns.
From a family of athletic juggernauts that have exceled in every sport
possible, Flores drive and determination to be good at what she does comes from
her parents who have inspired her to be the best from the time she first started
playing baseball.
"My dad was mainly the one who coached me," explained
Flores after coming from a busy practice. "I have been lucky to have great
coaches starting with my parents."
Arlynda credits her coaches from high
school and now at St. Mary's for giving her the knowledge to be successful on
the field, and with her recent success, she has absorbed the knowledge like a
sponge.
When it comes to her relationship with her dad, baseball has always
bonded them together, and even if he was tired after a long day at the office,
she would always drag him out to the baseball diamond, so he can help her out
with her game.
"He was always out there," said Flores, "it was always
more of me dragging him out there."
"He would always be like 'oh I'm tired,'
continued Flores, "and I'm like 'come on dad' because I always wanted to be out
on the field practicing."
Coming from a diverse family of athletes, among
those include Arlynda's uncle who was an athlete in track authentic
Pablo Sandoval jersey Grey and field who she said still holds to this day
records in the sport and family members who have played football and basketball,
she is continuting on that tradition of those before her, and maybe will eclipse
their success one day.
The ultimate key to winning in sports is the team
concept, and more authentic
Mel Ott jersey White importantly, chemistry in the locker room, and that is
no different for Arlynda and her teammates who inspire eachother to keep a
positive attitude even when things are not going so well on the diamond.
"We
are real postive in the locker room," said Flores. "What helps are team is we
stay positive a lot even if we are down in a game, and we have a postive
attitude that 'we can't give up because anything can happen during a
game."
"We are always staying positive and fighting for the win," continued
Flores.
It also helps that her and her teammates have a close relationship
outside the field, and she said that they hang out a lot on campus and have fun
when they are not practicing and playing ball.
On the verge of breaking the
homerun record at St.Mary's, Arlynda is astonished at her accomplishment because
in high school the number of homeruns she hit out of the ball park you can count
on one hand.
However, every year, she has gotten better as a baseball player,
and this year is a special season for her because she dedicated it to Tim
Lincecum official jersey her grandma who recently passed away.
"She was
one of my biggest fans," said Flores, "it's like I have a guardian angel on my
side."
Eventhough she is doing great athletically, she doesn't forget the big
picture status and that is her education, and trying to balance school and
sports would exaust some people, for Arlynda it is a daily routine.
"From
eight in the morning to two in the afternoon, I worry authentic
Pablo Sandoval jersey Cream about all my studies and get my homeowork in,"
authentic
Tim Lincecum jersey Cream said Flores.
"Two o' clock hits, and it's
softball from two to 6:30, and after practice, I go back to my dorm and hit the
books again," continued Flores.
With a mentality of "don't pass don't play"
from her parents, with all the time and effort she puts into baseball, she is
not satisfied with getting average grades, and aspires authentic
Tim Lincecum jersey Black to be the best in school as well which takes a lot
of dedication.
"I did not want to pass with just that C, I want to get that
A," said Flores.
With a great supporting cast all around her from her family
to her teammates, Arlynda Flores is not satisfied with the status quo, and is
dedicated to be the best at everything she does, and is proving that baseball is
not just a man's, game anymore.
